Spring and fall offer the most comfortable weather for hiking and golfing in St. George, while summer is ideal for pool days and winter brings quiet trails and rare dual-sport days. St. George, Utah offers world-class outdoor recreation and year-round sunshine. The Inn at Entrada serves as your private luxury sanctuary inside the gated Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club, offering exclusive access to a championship David McLay Kidd golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, a wellness center, and a luxury pool. Match your favorite activities to the right season and return to the comfort of your private accommodation.

Spring in St. George

Spring is one of the most popular times to visit St. George. March brings average highs around 68°F , while April reaches about 75°F , and May climbs to 85°F . The temperatures are warm enough for full days of outdoor adventures without the intense heat of summer.
The comfortable weather also means spring can be a busy time in southern Utah. Spring break and holiday weekends bring more visitors to popular attractions and national parks, so it is recommended to reserve your accommodations in advance.
Snow Canyon State Park is an easy place to start. The park is located just a 5 minute drive from the Inn at Entrada. Its red sandstone cliffs, lava flows, and desert trails offer plenty to explore close to the Inn.
Spring is an ideal time to enjoy Entrada’s outdoor amenities. Play a round on the private 18-hole David McLay Kidd-designed championship golf course, book a tennis or pickleball court, or take a walk around the property. Afterward, the spa and other wellness amenities offer a chance to slow down.
St. George also has several spring events worth planning around. The St. George art festival takes place in spring, and the St. George Plein Air Festival brings artists outdoors to capture the scenic landscapes of Utah. Additionally, The Spring Tour of St. George is an option for cyclists visiting the area.
We recommend packing lightweight, breathable layers, comfortable hiking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. A light jacket is useful for cooler mornings and evenings.
Spring is particularly well suited for golfers, hikers, families, and travelers who want to spend most of their trip outdoors.

Summer in St. George

Summer brings intense midday heat, making early mornings and late evenings the most practical times to explore the outdoors. Average highs reach about 96°F in June, 102°F in July, and 100°F in August. The heat is something to plan around, but it does not have to keep you from enjoying the outdoors.
Early mornings are usually the most comfortable times for hiking, golfing, and other strenuous activities. Hot afternoons mean fewer crowds on local hiking trails between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. For travelers looking to escape the heat, higher elevation destinations like Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park offer cooler conditions. Low humidity can make summer mornings feel more comfortable before temperatures climb, but the desert sun is still intense, so hydration and sun protection are important.
The afternoon is a good time to enjoy the Inn at Entrada’s resort amenities. Relax at the resort pool, book a spa treatment, or take a break in your room.
For a change in scenery, head to Sand Hollow State Park, about 30 minutes from St. George. The reservoir is popular for swimming, boating, paddle boarding, and other water activities, giving you a way to enjoy the outdoors while staying close to the water.
Summer evenings bring another reason to come visit. Located just a 9-minute drive from the Inn, Tuacahn Amphitheatre hosts world-class Broadway productions set against the dramatic backdrop of 1,500-foot red rock cliffs. Seeing a performance beneath the canyon walls as the sun sets is an incredible experience and an absolute must-do during your stay.
Pack swimwear, lightweight clothing, sandals, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. A hydration pack or insulated water bottle is important for hiking and other outdoor activities. Bring a light layer for evenings, when temperatures cool slightly during sunset.
Summer is the perfect time to visit for families, couples, and travelers who enjoy warm weather but want time to slow down between adventures.

Fall in St. George

Fall brings some of the most comfortable weather of the year to Southern Utah. September remains warm with average highs around 92°F, but temperatures fall to approximately 79°F in October and 64°F in November.
October is an ideal time for hiking, golfing, and sightseeing. Cool mornings turn into pleasant afternoons, while evenings are ideal for outdoor dining or relaxing back at the Inn. The month also brings major events such as the St. George Marathon and Huntsman World Senior Games, as well as the Bank of Utah Championship at Black Desert Resort.
Snow Canyon State Park is especially enjoyable in the fall. Take a scenic drive along Snow Canyon Drive, hike through the park’s red rock landscape or spend the morning exploring its lava flows before heading back to the Inn.
Zion National Park is another popular fall destination. The drive from the Inn is about 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic and where you’re headed to in the park. Higher elevations and areas near waterways can also bring fall color to Southern Utah, which creates a striking contrast with the red sandstone.
If you want to relax after a day of hiking visit Zion Canyon Hot Springs, located in La Verkin less than 30 minutes from Zion National Park. Since it's positioned right along State Route 9, you’ll pass right by it on your drive between St. George and Zion. This makes it an effortless stop on your way back to the Inn. The property uses mineral rich water sourced from natural springs along the Virgin River and offers mineral pools and other soaking experiences.
Back at The Inn at Entrada, fall is the perfect time to enjoy the property’s amenities. Play pickleball or golf during the day, then return to your accommodation to relax, spend some time in the hot tub, or enjoy dinner at the clubhouse.
We recommend that you pack comfortable hiking shoes, breathable clothing layers, and a fleece or light jacket for the cooler mornings and evenings.
Fall is ideal for hikers, golfers, couples, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts looking for comfortable weather.

Winter in St. George

Winter is a quieter alternative to the busier spring and fall season. Average temperatures are around 54°F in December and January and about 59°F in February. While the mornings and evenings are cold, sunny afternoons are often comfortable enough for hiking, golfing, and sightseeing. The cooler weather also means less traffic on many local trails and a more relaxed pace at outdoor attractions.
One of the most unique ways to spend a winter day in Southern Utah is with a ski-and-golf combination. Brian Head Resort is about 90 minutes away from St. George, making it possible to spend the morning skiing or snowboarding before returning to Entrada for an afternoon round of golf.
Closer to the Inn, explore Snow Canyon, take a winter day trip to Zion, or stay on property to enjoy the resort’s amenities. The hot tub is heated year round, and the wellness center, spa, fitness facilities, tennis courts, and pickleball courts give you plenty of options when the weather turns chilly.
Winter is also a good time to enjoy your room. Escape the cold, warm up by the fireplace and settle in for a quiet evening. Select accommodations offer full kitchens and additional living space, making them perfect for longer stays.
Pack an insulated winter coat, thermal layers, warm gloves, and comfortable shoes for hikes and golf. If you plan to ski at Brian Head, bring proper winter clothing and snow gear since conditions there can be considerably colder.
Winter is a good time to visit for couples, golfers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want a quieter getaway.

Family Adventures in Snow Canyon

“We enjoyed our one night so much, we looked up flights for my parents and hope to go back with family. They seem to have adjoining units, so it would be a great place to have a family reunion.” — Xochitl G., Google Review
If you’re looking for the perfect activity for your family’s spring break trip, look no further. Just a five-minute drive from the Inn at Entrada, Snow Canyon has plenty of options for the whole group. There are rigorous hikes for advanced hikers and easier, more accessible paths for small children or grandparents who want to tag along. We recommend Jenny’s Canyon for most groups as it is a short, approachable hike with a small slot canyon that feels like an adventure.

With a sequel making you wish it was summer all year round, you might be surprised that the famous “Lava Springs Country Club” isn’t just a film set but a real place nestled in Southern Utah.

A musical getaway

If the Disney Channel was part of your childhood in the 2000s, you’ll remember High School Musical 2’s iconic “Bet On It” by Zac Efron as he dances across a golf course, or the whole cast’s performance of “All For One” in and around an outdoor pool. And if you’ve seen the photos of our hotel, you might recognize that it was the very setting for the movie!
Known to most as “Lava Springs Country Club”, our very own Inn at Entrada hosted the stars of High School Musical 2 in 2007. Our property in St. George, UT, caught the eye of director Kenny Ortega because of the surrounding rich, red landscape and upscale resort vibe. Zac Efron’s “Bet On It” gives a perfect tour of our award-winning Snow Canyon Golf Course with its impressive greens, immaculate fairways, and picturesque views of the rolling red hills in the distance. Even parts of the interior served as backdrops for Troy and Gabriela’s romantic musical number.
It’s not uncommon for nostalgic fans to book a stay to experience stepping onto the same greens as Troy or go swimming in the same outdoor pool as Sharpay and her crew.

Has the property changed since the film?

It may not be obvious at first glance, but the “Lava Springs Country Club” has undergone a $7 million renovation project by golf designer David McLay Kidd in 2022. Although not a total reconstruction, a large part of this 18-month project focused on improving the golf experience and creating new ways a golfer can play and score. Some of these enhancements include irrigation and drainage replacements, redesign and resurfacing of the greens, recontouring of the fairways, and a re-grassing of the entire course.

Things to do nearby

The High School Musical crew definitely knew how to choose a vacation spot! When you stay at our inn, you’ll be near all the fun things to do in and around St. George, UT. Here’s a list of some of our favorite excursions:
